COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program structured to develop advanced creative, technical, and strategic design skills through a combination of core studies, specialist learning, and flexible electives. The program begins with Core Group 1, consisting of 80 credit points that establish foundational knowledge in visual communication, design thinking, digital storytelling, typography, branding, and creative problem-solving. Students then progress to Core Group 2, which includes 160 credit points focused on advanced studio-based learning, industry engagement, and professional design practice. These subjects strengthen expertise in areas such as user experience design, branding strategy, digital media, visual storytelling, and collaborative design projects, while encouraging experimentation, innovation, and critical thinking. Students also complete 40 credit points of alternate specialist design pairings, allowing them to tailor their studies toward specific design interests and career pathways by combining complementary areas of expertise. The remaining 40 credit points are dedicated to elective study, giving students flexibility to broaden their knowledge through additional university subjects or related creative disciplines. Throughout the degree, students build practical industry experience, professional portfolios, and strong communication skills through studio projects and industry collaboration.
