COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science at Western Sydney University is a 240-credit-point program designed to equip students with advanced analytical, mathematical, and computing skills for the modern data-driven world. The 160-credit-point core provides a strong foundation in programming, mathematics, data analytics, and machine learning. Students study key subjects including Programming Fundamentals, Thinking About Data, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematics 1A, Introduction to Data Science, Analytics Programming, Visual Analytics, Machine Learning, Mathematical Programming, and Probabilistic Models and Inference. The program also develops expertise in database systems, big data applications, social web analytics, project management, and applied research through the Discovery Project. These subjects prepare students to analyse complex datasets, build predictive models, and apply artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems across industries. In addition to the core structure, students complete 80 credit points of elective study, allowing them to specialise through majors, minors, or additional electives tailored to their career interests. This flexibility enables students to broaden or deepen their expertise in areas related to computing, analytics, and emerging technologies.
