COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology combined with the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is structured as a 400-credit-point program designed to integrate criminology studies with a comprehensive legal education. The Criminology core (350 credit points) provides an in-depth exploration of crime, justice systems, and social responses to deviance. Students study key areas such as criminal justice institutions and practices, victimisation, juvenile justice, policing and surveillance, prisons and punishment, crime prevention strategies, and the social factors influencing crime, including race, class, gender, and disability. The program also examines the relationship between crime, media, and culture, along with contemporary debates in criminology and the criminalisation of disadvantage. This extensive core builds strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, enabling students to understand crime within broader social and political contexts. The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) component consists of 50 credit points of LLB alternate subjects, allowing students to develop foundational and specialised legal knowledge. These subjects strengthen skills in legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, research, and ethical judgement, while also introducing practical legal perspectives. Together, the structure equips graduates with interdisciplinary expertise in both criminology and law, preparing them for careers in criminal justice, policing, corrections, policy development, social services, and legal practice, as well as pathways to advanced academic study.
