COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science double degree at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program designed to provide students with a strong interdisciplinary education combining humanities, social sciences, and global perspectives. The Arts core includes subjects such as Australian Politics and Active Citizenship, Diversity, Language and Culture, Academic English, and Critical Thinking, which help students build communication, analytical, and intercultural skills. The Social Science core focuses on understanding society through subjects like Applied Social Research, Contemporary Social Issues, Ethics in the Social Sciences, People, Place and Social Difference, Indigenous Australia, and research-based learning for social change. Students then choose one Arts major from a wide range of disciplines including Culture and Society, English, International Relations and Asian Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, History and Political Thought, Indigenous Studies, and Asian languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, or Japanese. Alongside this, students select a Social Science major such as Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Geography and Urban Studies, Peace and Development Studies, or Child and Community Studies. The program also includes an Arts minor, allowing further specialization. This flexible double degree prepares graduates for careers in government, community services, research, international development, education, media, and global organizations.
