COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts program at Western Sydney University is a 240-credit-point degree designed to provide students with a flexible and practical education in humanities and social sciences. The core structure includes 60 credit points of foundational subjects across three levels. At Level 1, students study Australian Politics and Active Citizenship, Diversity, Language and Culture, Academic English, and Critical Thinking, which build communication, cultural awareness, and analytical skills. Level 2 includes Multiliteracies, focusing on advanced communication in digital and academic contexts, while Level 3 offers applied learning through options such as internships, service learning, group projects, study tours, or student-led change initiatives. Students then complete a major from a wide range of disciplines including Anthropology, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Culture and Society, English, History and Political Thought, International Relations and Asian Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, and various languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, and Japanese. In addition, students must complete a second field of study, either as another major or a minor, along with elective subjects to broaden their knowledge. This structure ensures that graduates develop strong critical thinking, communication, and practical experience, preparing them for careers in education, media, government, social services, research, and other professional fields requiring adaptable and globally aware graduates.
