COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Architectural Design at Western Sydney University is a 240-credit-point program that provides a strong foundation in design thinking, architectural practice, and built environment studies. The core component of 200 credit points is structured around studio-based learning and technical knowledge development. Students begin with foundational subjects such as Human Centred Design Research Methods and Design Graphics: Presenting Innovation, which develop research skills and visual communication abilities. They then progress through a series of architecture studios, including Fundamentals of Analogue Design and Fundamentals of Digital Design, which focus on creative exploration and technical skill-building. The curriculum also includes studies in environmental design, residential and non-residential building systems, urban studies, and spatial analysis. Advanced studio subjects such as Rethinking Urbanism, Rethinking the Sub-urban, Global Cities, and The Infrastructural encourage students to explore complex design challenges in real-world contexts. Additional technical subjects like Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Analysis of Spatial Data strengthen understanding of sustainable and data-informed design. The remaining 40 credit points are flexible electives, allowing students to pursue additional interests or complete a minor.
