COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Science at Western Sydney University is a 240-credit-point program designed for students who want a strong foundation in scientific knowledge combined with advanced research experience. The core component consists of 70 credit points and includes essential subjects such as Scientific Literacy, Introductory Chemistry, and a sequence of advanced research-focused units including Practicum 1 and a multi-stage Advanced Science Research Project (A, B, and C), which develop practical laboratory skills, independent research ability, and scientific problem-solving. Students then select a Testamur Major from specialised science disciplines such as Animal Science, Applied Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Health, Forensic Science, Sustainable Environmental Futures, or Zoology. Each major includes a structured set of core field subjects tailored to build deep disciplinary expertise. In addition to the major, students complete 40 credit points of electives, which may be used to pursue a minor in a related or different field or to choose additional subjects offered across the university. This flexible structure allows students to personalise their learning while maintaining a strong focus on research and scientific training. The program prepares graduates for careers in scientific research, environmental and laboratory work, healthcare sciences, forensic investigation, and further postgraduate study.
