COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Victoria University is a 288 credit point core program designed to prepare students for professional practice in early childhood education. The course includes structured academic learning combined with 80 days of supervised professional experience in real early learning settings. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in child development, wellbeing, creativity, play-based learning, educational frameworks, and safe learning environments. These subjects help students understand how young children learn and develop in their early years. In the second year, the program focuses on deeper engagement with teaching practice and educational theory through units such as history and philosophy of early childhood education, play-based learning, creative arts, movement, music, and understanding childhood from different social and cultural perspectives. Students also begin practice-based partnership units that provide hands-on classroom experience. In the third year, the course shifts toward advanced learning in language, literacy, science, mathematics, leadership, social justice, diversity, and contemporary issues in early childhood education. Students also complete extended practice in partnership placements, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real educational environments. Overall, the program develops skilled, reflective, and socially responsible early childhood educators who are prepared to support children’s learning, wellbeing, and development in inclusive and professional early learning settings.
