COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary Education) at Victoria University is a 192-credit-point postgraduate program designed to prepare graduates for professional teaching careers in primary schools. It consists of 168 credit points of core studies and 24 credit points of capstone studies, along with structured professional experience requirements. A key feature of the program is the completion of at least 65 practicum days in primary school settings, providing extensive supervised classroom teaching experience. Students must also pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) to be eligible for graduation and teacher registration in Victoria. The course is structured across two years. In Year 1, students study foundational education units including Curriculum and Multi-modal Learning (EED5102), Approaches to Teaching and Learning (EED7002), Language and Literacy in the Primary Years 1 (ETP5001), Teaching and Learning Primary Mathematics 1 (ETP5003), Primary Health and Physical Education (ETP5005), Humanities in Primary Education (ETP5006), Science in Primary Education (ETP5007), and The Arts and Design in Primary Education (ETP5008). In Year 2, students progress to advanced and professional-focused units such as Indigenous Perspectives in Learning and Teaching (AEK7001), Research Methods in Education (EED7001), Curriculum Specialisation (EED7005), and Engaging with the Profession (EED7004), along with advanced literacy and mathematics units. Overall, the program integrates theory, curriculum knowledge, and extensive classroom practice to prepare work-ready primary teachers.
