COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Research at Victoria University is a structured postgraduate program designed to prepare students for independent research through coursework and a major thesis. To complete the qualification, students must achieve a minimum average of 70% in required coursework units before progressing to the research thesis component, which must be successfully passed and approved by the Dean (or nominee). The coursework core includes Introduction to Research Methodology (UGR7001), Research Design and Proposal Development (UGR7002), and Research Integrity and Ethics (UGR7003), all of which build essential skills in academic research practice, ethical standards, and project planning. Students also complete 12 credit points of advanced disciplinary learning through Enhancing Researcher Knowledge and Skills (UGR7006), which is negotiated with a supervisor to support their specific research focus. The major component of the program is the Research Thesis, which is undertaken in a discipline aligned with the student’s area of interest. Available thesis streams include Applied Science, Arts, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Business, Engineering fields, Computer Science and Mathematics, Education, Nursing, Physics, Sport Science, Food Science, Law and Justice, and more. Each stream allows students to conduct in-depth research in a specialised field. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, methodological, and independent research skills across a wide range of disciplines.
