COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Psychology (Clinical Psychology) at Victoria University is a 192-credit-point program consisting of core coursework, clinical training, placements, and a research thesis. The structure differs slightly between the 2024 intake (continuing students) and the 2025 intake onwards, but both pathways are designed to develop advanced clinical psychology competencies and research skills. Core study areas include Foundations of Psychotherapy (APC6085), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (APC6005), Clinical Assessment (APC6086), Psychopathology and Diagnosis (APC6088), Professional Ethics (APC6087), Research Methods (APC6089), Psychology of Health and Community (APM7008), and Evidence-Based Therapy Developments (APC7010). Students also complete extensive supervised clinical training through units such as Clinic Experience (HCP6001), Clinical Placement 1 and 2 (APC7005, APC7008), and Practicum units (HPP7001, HPP7002 in the 2025 intake). The program includes advanced therapeutic training in both cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic approaches, with units like Introduction to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (APC6006) and Psychodynamic Therapy Applications (APC7011) in the earlier structure. A major component is the completion of a two-part research thesis (APC7901/APC7902 or APC7903/APC7904 depending on intake), which builds strong research capability. Overall, the course integrates academic learning, ethical practice, and real-world clinical placements to prepare students for professional clinical psychology practice in mental health settings.
