COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Information Technology at Victoria University is a 192-credit-point postgraduate program designed to develop advanced technical, analytical, and research skills in modern computing and information systems. The course consists of 120 credit points of core units and 72 credit points of either a research project pathway or a thesis pathway, along with elective subjects that allow specialisation. Core units cover essential and advanced IT areas such as AI-assisted project management, fundamentals of cyber security, networking systems, database analysis and design, advanced object-oriented programming, applied natural language processing, neural networks and deep learning, data warehousing and mining, and introduction to research. These subjects build strong foundations in both practical computing and emerging technologies. Students then choose between two pathways: Option A includes IT Research Project 1 and 2, while Option B includes IT Thesis 1 and 2, both aimed at developing independent research capability and industry-relevant problem-solving skills. Elective units allow further specialisation in areas such as cloud security, cyber security policy and law, security risk management, mobile applications, and project management. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, IT consultancy, and research roles, while also providing a pathway to further academic study such as a PhD.
