COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma of Education Studies at Victoria University is a 96-credit-point foundation program designed to build core knowledge and skills for entry into education-related degrees and careers. It includes eight core units: Investigating Australian Humanities (AEK1006), Academic and Professional Learning (EDC1000), Sociological Orientation to Education (EDC1001), Investigating STEM Education (EDC1004), Health, Physical Activity and Wellbeing Education (EDC1005), ICT in Education and Learning (EDC1007), Learning Through Literacy (EDC1008), and Learning in and through the Arts (EDC1010), each worth 12 credit points. The course provides a broad introduction to key learning areas in education, combining academic foundations with practical perspectives on teaching and learning. Students explore how humanities, science, technology, health, literacy, and the arts are taught and understood in educational contexts, alongside the social and sociological factors that influence learning. Emphasis is placed on developing communication skills, professional awareness, and reflective practice to prepare students for further study in education pathways. Successful completion of the diploma allows progression into second-year entry of selected bachelor degrees such as Education Studies, Early Childhood Education, Arts, or Education (Primary/P-12), depending on eligibility and additional requirements. Overall, the course acts as a structured stepping stone into the teaching profession and related fields in education and community learning environments.
