COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Sport Management at Victoria University is a 288-credit-point program designed to develop strong business and leadership skills tailored specifically to the sport and active recreation industries. The course is structured into 96 credit points of First Year core units and 192 credit points of advanced core units, providing a clear progression from foundational knowledge to specialised sport management expertise. In the first year, students study key business and sport-related subjects such as financial literacy, marketing, business law, data analytics, ethics and sustainability, people and organisations, as well as introductory units in sport and active recreation and community building. In the later stages of the degree, students focus on applied and professional areas including leadership, managing people, innovation and entrepreneurship, workplace readiness, sport sponsorships, sport facility management, risk management in natural environments, and sociology of sport. The program also includes workplace learning and industry-focused units such as business events, managing organisational change, research and evaluation in sport, and building sport participation. Students develop practical experience and industry connections through applied learning and professional engagement. Overall, the course equips graduates with strong capabilities in planning, leadership, marketing, finance, and community engagement, preparing them for careers in sport organisations, event management, facility operations, and sport development programs.
