COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is a comprehensive four-year degree designed to provide advanced knowledge of human behaviour, psychological theory, and research methods while preparing students for further professional psychology training. The program requires completion of 384 credit points, including first-year core studies, psychology core units, honours thesis research, and psychology electives. In the initial years, students study foundational topics such as psychology, sociology, interpersonal communication, organisational skills, Indigenous health and wellbeing, and psychological research methods. As the program progresses, students undertake more advanced subjects including developmental psychology, workplace psychology, history and practice of psychology, qualitative and quantitative social research methods, and clinical aspects of psychology. Practical learning is strengthened through fieldwork and an independent research project, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in professional settings. In the honours year, students complete advanced coursework in professional psychological assessment, psychological interventions, social research methods, and a substantial supervised research thesis. The program also offers electives such as counselling theory, group behaviour, psychobiology, organisations and work, and family wellbeing, enabling students to explore specialised interests. To progress into the honours year, students must achieve a minimum Weighted Average Mark of 70% across third-year psychology units. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, research, communication, and professional skills for careers and postgraduate pathways in psychology and mental health fields.
