COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Studies at Victoria University is a 288-credit-point program designed to build a strong understanding of human behaviour, research methods, and applied psychology in real-world contexts. The course is structured into 96 credit points of First Year Core studies, 120 credit points of Core Psychology studies, 24 credit points of Psychology Electives, and 48 credit points of Minor studies. In the first year, students study foundational subjects including psychology 1A and 1B, sociology, organisational and interpersonal skills, Indigenous health and wellbeing, and introductory psychological research methods. In the second year, students progress to developmental psychology, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and advanced psychology units while also beginning their chosen minor and elective studies. The third year focuses on more specialised areas such as psychological issues in the workplace, history and theories of psychology, clinical aspects, and advanced research methods, alongside fieldwork experience and continued minor and elective study. Students can choose electives such as counselling theory, group behaviour, psychobiology, organisational psychology, or relationship wellbeing, and minors in areas like sociology, gender studies, health, or Indigenous health. Overall, the program combines academic theory with practical application and field experience, preparing graduates for careers in community services, human resources, counselling support, education, and related people-focused professions while also developing strong research and communication skills.
