COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Criminology at Victoria University is a 432-credit-point double degree designed to integrate advanced legal training with in-depth criminological study. It includes 96 credit points of First Year Core studies, 156 credit points of Professional Core Law units, 120 credit points of Professional Core Criminology units, 24 credit points of Honours-level study in the final year, and 36 credit points of elective units. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through subjects such as Australian Legal System in Context, Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law, Legal Research Methods, Introduction to Criminology, Policing and Offending, and Criminal Investigation, Procedure and Sentencing. In later years, law studies expand into areas like Corporations Law, Constitutional Law, Real Property Law, Equity and Trusts, Commercial Law, Civil Procedure, and Legal Ethics, while criminology explores Crime and Inequality, Corporate Crime, Criminological Theory, Digital Criminology, Crime Across Borders, and Contemporary Issues in Criminology. The program also includes practical and applied learning through internships, advocacy training, and research projects. In the final year, students complete advanced legal research and a dissertation, strengthening their analytical and academic skills. Elective units such as Intellectual Property Law, Migration Law, and International Law allow further specialisation, preparing graduates for careers in legal practice, justice policy, research, and criminology-related fields.
