COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Criminology at Victoria University is a comprehensive dual degree designed to develop strong expertise in both legal studies and criminology. The program requires completion of 432 credit points, combining law, criminology, and elective studies across five years, with an optional Honours pathway in the final year for eligible students. In the first year, students study foundational legal and criminology subjects such as the Australian legal system, contracts, torts, legal research methods, criminal law, introduction to criminology, policing and offending, and criminal investigation. In the second year, students build deeper knowledge through units like criminological theory, corporate crime, crime and inequality, constitutional law, corporations law, legal writing, and legal interpretation. The third year focuses on advanced legal and criminological understanding, including real property law, equity and trusts, commercial law, digital criminology, crime across borders, and professional ethics, along with elective law subjects. In the fourth year, students complete applied and research-based learning through subjects such as victims and justice, civil procedure, internships, research projects, and administrative law. The final year includes evidence law and advanced electives to complete the degree. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in law, criminal justice, policy, legal practice, and international legal and criminological fields.
