COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional) at Victoria University is a 336-credit-point program designed to combine strong technical foundations with extensive real-world industry experience. The course is structured into 96 credit points of First Year Core studies, 48 credit points of Graduating Core studies, 96 credit points of Major studies, and two 48-credit-point Industry Placement units. In the first year, students build essential IT knowledge through subjects such as programming, web development, computer networks, databases, operating systems, project management, cyber security, and data science. These foundational units prepare students for more advanced study and practical application. The program’s key feature is its industry placement component, where students complete two major placements (IT Professional 1 and IT Professional 2), gaining extensive hands-on experience in real workplace environments and developing professional skills. Students then specialise through a chosen major in either Web and Mobile Application Development or Network and System Computing, allowing them to focus on software development, systems design, or network infrastructure. A graduating core unit further strengthens professional readiness and industry understanding. Overall, the course integrates academic learning with significant industry exposure, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in software development, IT systems, networking, and other technology-driven roles in the global digital economy.
