COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Science at Victoria University is a 288-credit-point program designed to prepare students for careers in public health, health promotion, and community wellbeing. The course structure includes 96 credit points of First Year Core studies, 96 credit points of Public Health Major studies, and an additional 96 credit points that can be completed either as a second Major or as Minor studies, offering flexible study pathways. Students may choose Option A to complete a double major in Public Health and Indigenous Health, or Option B to combine their Public Health major with two minors from areas such as Indigenous Health, Health (Sport Science), Health and Nutrition, or Bioscience. In the first year, students study foundational subjects including Indigenous Health and Wellbeing, Anatomy and Physiology, Professional Communication, Introduction to Public Health and Wellness, Evidence and Health, Health and Social Care Systems and Policy, and Human Nutrition. These units build essential knowledge of health systems, human biology, and population health. The Public Health major develops expertise in disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, and health research, while optional Indigenous Health studies provide additional cultural and community-focused understanding. Overall, the program blends scientific knowledge with public health practice, preparing graduates for diverse roles in government health departments, NGOs, community organisations, and health policy development.
