COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical Engineering) is a structured four-year program requiring completion of 384 credit points, including 336 credit points of core engineering studies and 48 credit points of capstone studies, along with a mandatory engineering professional experience unit. The first year builds foundational engineering knowledge through subjects such as introduction to engineering, computational methods, engineering dynamics, structural mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical systems, applied quantitative methods, and sustainable engineering design. In the second year, students progress into specialised mechanical engineering topics including mechanics of materials, engineering design and optimisation, stress analysis, machine elements, materials engineering, failure analysis, and integrated mechanical systems design. The third year focuses on advanced applications such as aero-hydrodynamics, thermofluids, sustainable energy systems, computational modelling, vibration analysis, rigid body dynamics, and advanced mechanical systems design, alongside professional engineering experience. In the final year, students undertake high-level applied and industry-focused learning through advanced simulation and optimisation in manufacturing, computational fluid dynamics, mechanical design studio projects such as Formula SAE, and smart manufacturing systems design. The program strongly integrates theory with practical application, ensuring students develop expertise in modelling, simulation, analysis, and design of mechanical systems. Overall, the degree prepares graduates for careers in industries such as manufacturing, energy, transport, defence, mining, and advanced engineering design, equipping them with strong technical, analytical, and professional engineering capabilities.
