COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Dermal Sciences at Victoria University is a four-year, 288-credit-point professional degree designed to develop advanced skills in evidence-based skin health treatments and dermal therapy practice. The course is structured progressively across four years, combining foundational biomedical sciences, specialised dermal training, and extensive clinical experience. In the first year, students build essential knowledge in Indigenous health and wellbeing, dermal sciences, anatomy and physiology, public health, nutrition, communication, and research methods. The second year focuses on core professional development, including dermal sciences, clinical skills, occupational health and safety, cosmetic formulations, laser principles and safety, as well as legal and ethical practice in dermal services. In the third year, students advance into clinical practice and research application through subjects such as evidence for dermal practice, dermal clinic placements, advanced dermal sciences, clinical skills development, and research design. The final year emphasises professional readiness and independent learning through extended clinic placements, advanced clinical skills, and evidence-based practice units, along with an independent research project and group research work. Throughout the degree, students gain extensive hands-on experience in real clinical environments, particularly within university dermal clinics. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and professional competence to work in dermal therapy clinics, cosmetic treatment centres, and allied health settings focused on skin health and rehabilitation.
