COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology is a comprehensive three-year program requiring completion of 288 credit points, combining foundational legal studies, professional criminology subjects, and specialised minor studies to provide students with advanced understanding of crime, justice, and criminal behaviour. In the first year, students build core knowledge through subjects such as introduction to criminology, crime and inequality, policing and offending, criminal law, legal interpretation, legal research methods, and criminal investigation and sentencing. These units establish a strong foundation in both criminology and legal systems. In the second year, students explore more specialised topics including corporate crime, criminological theory, digital criminology, the history of criminal law and trials, and contemporary issues in criminology, while also beginning minor studies that allow them to broaden their expertise in complementary disciplines. The final year focuses on applied learning and advanced analysis through units such as victims, justice and the law, crime research methods, and a major research project that strengthens investigative and analytical skills. Students can further customise their degree through minors in psychology, international security, human rights, or interpersonal skills and conflict resolution. Overall, the program develops critical thinking, research, communication, and policy analysis capabilities while preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, policing, corrections, intelligence, policy development, community services, advocacy, and related legal or government sectors.
