COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminal Justice is a structured undergraduate program consisting of 288 credit points designed to build strong knowledge and practical skills in law, justice, and community systems. The Bachelor of Criminal Justice begins with 96 credit points of first-year core units that introduce foundational concepts such as criminal justice systems, crime and inequality, policing and offending, applied human rights, Australian legal systems, Aboriginal traditions and policy, and youth in a global community. These units help students understand how justice systems operate and how social factors influence crime and inequality. In the second year, students progress to more applied and analytical studies including ethics, gender in public life, alternative approaches to justice, creative change and social justice, and professional practice in justice settings, along with project design and working with young people and substance use issues. The third year focuses on advanced understanding and practical application through units such as criminal justice reform, sociology of law, conflict resolution, victims and justice, and research in community settings. A major feature of the final year is an industry placement, where students gain real-world experience in justice-related environments. Overall, the course combines theory, research, and practical learning to prepare graduates for careers in policing, corrections, courts, youth justice, and community services, with strong emphasis on social justice and professional capability.
