COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedicine at Victoria University is a 288-credit-point program designed to build a strong foundation in biomedical sciences for students aiming for careers in medicine, allied health, or medical research. The course is structured into 96 credit points of first-year core units, 144 credit points of advanced core studies, and 48 credit points of minor studies. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge in human biology, physiology, anatomy, chemistry, mathematics, and evolutionary biology, forming the basis for more advanced scientific study. The second year focuses on deeper biomedical understanding through subjects such as cell and molecular biology, medical biochemistry, functional anatomy, pathophysiology, and cardiorespiratory and renal physiology, alongside selected minor studies. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics including research methods, exercise medicine, neuroscience, genetics, developmental biology, and disease mechanisms, with the option to complete a research project or study biomolecular mechanisms of disease. The curriculum emphasises both theoretical knowledge and practical scientific skills, preparing students to understand complex biological systems and disease processes. Students also specialise through minors in areas such as health and nutrition, integrative physiology, immunopharmacology, or entrepreneurial thinking. Overall, the program provides strong preparation for postgraduate study in medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy, dietetics, and biomedical research, equipping graduates with analytical, laboratory, and research skills essential for careers in health and science.
