COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Architectural Design is a professionally oriented three-year degree requiring completion of 288 credit points, combining foundational construction knowledge with advanced architectural design and professional practice studies. The first year focuses on core technical and communication skills through subjects such as fundamentals of building construction, building science, maths for builders, structural mechanics, measurement and estimating, structural principles in construction, and introduction to architectural design. These units establish a strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, and architectural communication. In the second year, students progress into more specialised architectural studies including architectural history and analysis, building contract documentation, building systems and services, and building development and compliance. Students also participate in intensive Architectural Design Studio units where they apply creative design concepts to practical projects and develop industry-relevant problem-solving abilities. The final year focuses on advanced professional preparation through subjects such as professional architectural practice, complex construction, urban design and development, and risk and safety management. Advanced studio subjects further strengthen students’ design capabilities by addressing complex real-world architectural challenges. Throughout the program, studio-based learning encourages innovation, sustainability, technical competence, and collaboration while preparing students for careers in architectural design, construction, urban planning, and building development sectors. The degree also provides a pathway to postgraduate architectural studies for students wishing to pursue professional registration as architects.
