COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Music at Victoria University is a three-year program consisting of 288 credit points, including 240 credit points of core studies and 48 credit points of minor studies. The course combines music performance, creative production, music education, and social engagement to prepare students for diverse careers in the music and creative industries. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in music inquiry, creativity, communication, music and text, and the history and evolution of popular music genres such as blues, soul, rock, funk, and hip hop. The second year focuses on practical and industry-oriented skills, including music technology, audio production, home studio production, music theory, ear training, music teaching, wellbeing through music, and creative production processes. In the final year, students advance their expertise through studies in music education, applied music theory, streaming technologies, artificial intelligence in music, Aboriginal popular music, and two graduating projects that encourage independent creative practice and professional development. Students can personalise their learning through minor studies in areas such as writing, digital media, visual art, popular music studies, psychology-related musical studies, and Aboriginal knowledge and community engagement. The curriculum integrates creativity, technology, and cultural awareness while preparing graduates for careers in music performance, teaching, production, media, and community-focused creative work.
