COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nutrition and Dietetics is a 96-credit-point postgraduate professional degree designed to prepare students for practice as qualified dietitian-nutritionists eligible for membership of Dietitians Australia and accreditation as Accredited Practising Dietitians. The program is structured over two years, with 48 credit points completed in Year 1 and 48 credit points in Year 2. In Year 1, students focus on building a strong foundation in nutrition science, human physiology, biochemistry, food science, and introductory dietetic practice. This stage also includes early professional skill development, communication training, and initial exposure to clinical and community nutrition concepts. Students begin developing the ability to apply evidence-based nutrition knowledge to individual and population health contexts. In Year 2, the program advances into more specialised and applied learning, including clinical dietetics, community and public health nutrition, and food service management systems. A major feature of the second year is extensive supervised professional placement, contributing to over 800 hours of practical experience across hospitals, community health centres, government and non-government organisations, and food service settings. Students also complete a research project that strengthens their ability to analyse evidence and contribute to professional practice. Overall, the degree integrates academic learning, research, and clinical practice to prepare graduates for professional roles in healthcare, public health, and nutrition services as fully qualified dietitians.
