COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of International Relations Extension with a specialisation in Public Health at the University of Wollongong is a 96-credit-point postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge of international affairs, global governance, and public health policy. The course structure includes 12 credit points of core subjects, 24 credit points in Foundations of International Relations, and 60 credit points of electives, providing students with both a strong theoretical foundation and the flexibility to pursue specialised interests. Within the elective component, students may complete the Public Health specialisation (MAJ44302), which consists of 24 credit points focused on global health issues, public health policy, international health governance, health systems, disease prevention, and the political, social, and economic factors that influence health outcomes worldwide. Students are also required to complete at least 12 credit points of designated capstone subjects, allowing them to apply their knowledge through advanced research, policy analysis, and real-world problem solving. The program develops critical thinking, research, communication, and analytical skills that are essential for understanding the complex relationship between international relations and public health. By combining expertise in global policy and health-related challenges, graduates are prepared for careers in government agencies, international organisations, public health institutions, development agencies, non-government organisations, policy research centres, and other roles focused on addressing global health and international policy issues.
