COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology with a specialisation in Information Systems Development at the University of Wollongong is a 96-credit-point postgraduate program designed to build advanced technical and professional skills in the development, implementation, and management of information systems. The program includes 48 credit points of core subjects that provide a strong foundation in programming, data structures, database management systems, system analysis, project management, web development, strategic network design, and security, ethics, and professionalism. These core studies help students understand both the technical and organisational aspects of information technology. Students also complete 18 credit points in the Information Systems Development specialisation (MAJ40348), which focuses on the tools, techniques, frameworks, and methodologies used throughout the information systems development lifecycle. The specialisation develops expertise in analysing business requirements, designing technology solutions, implementing information systems, and managing digital services. It also explores emerging technologies and modern security mechanisms that support reliable and secure system development. The remaining credit points are selected from approved graduate IT subjects, providing flexibility to tailor studies according to individual interests and career goals. Suitable for students from both IT and non-IT backgrounds, the program prepares graduates for careers in systems development, business analysis, IT consulting, software implementation, project management, and technology leadership roles where strong technical knowledge and understanding of organisational technology needs are essential.
