COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Computer Science at the University of Wollongong is a 96-credit-point postgraduate program designed to build advanced technical expertise in computing, software systems, and data-driven technologies. The program includes 48 credit points of core subjects that establish a strong foundation in essential areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and IT project management. These core subjects equip students with the analytical and technical skills needed to design and develop efficient computing solutions for complex real-world problems. In addition to the core component, students complete 18 credit points of specialisation, with one option being Machine Learning and Big Data (MAJ41903), which focuses on advanced techniques for analysing large datasets and developing intelligent systems. This specialisation covers key areas such as machine learning algorithms, big data analytics, and computational methods used in modern data-intensive applications. Students also explore real-world use cases including image recognition, natural language processing, recommendation systems, and predictive analytics across industries like healthcare, finance, and security. The remaining 30 credit points are selected from the CSCI graduate subject list, allowing students to further tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. Through this combination of core knowledge, specialised machine learning study, and elective subjects, the program prepares graduates for careers in data science, artificial intelligence, software development, and advanced analytics roles in global technology-driven industries.
