COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Computer Science at the University of Wollongong is a 96-credit-point postgraduate program designed to develop advanced computing knowledge and practical problem-solving skills. The course includes 48 credit points of core subjects that provide a strong foundation in key areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software development, and IT project management. These core subjects help students build the technical and analytical abilities needed to design and implement effective computing solutions for complex real-world problems. Instead of a fixed specialisation, the program offers flexibility through a 12-credit-point group option, where students select one group from multiple available subject clusters, allowing them to tailor their learning based on interest and career goals. In addition, students complete 36 credit points from the CSCI graduate subject list, giving them further freedom to specialise in advanced computing topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering, or data science depending on subject availability and prerequisites. This flexible structure allows students to design a study pathway aligned with their personal strengths and industry demand. By combining core computer science knowledge with elective depth and applied learning, the program prepares graduates for diverse technology careers including software development, systems analysis, IT consulting, data-focused roles, and emerging areas in the global technology sector.
