COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Science with a major in Public Health is a 144 credit point undergraduate degree designed to prepare students to understand and address health issues at a population level. The program is completed over three years, with students undertaking 48 credit points in each year. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational social science concepts such as sociology, politics, and research methods, which help them understand how social, economic, and environmental factors influence health outcomes. In the second year, students build on this foundation by studying more specialised topics in public health, including health systems, health promotion, epidemiology, and the social determinants of health. In the third year, students engage with advanced subjects that focus on analysing health policies, evaluating public health programs, and applying research methods to real-world health challenges. The Public Health major (MAJ44301) consists of 48 credit points and focuses on improving population health, preventing disease, and promoting wellbeing through evidence-based strategies. Students examine issues such as chronic disease prevention, health inequalities, environmental health, and global health challenges. The program also develops strong skills in data analysis, research, communication, and policy evaluation.
