COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Secondary Education with a major in Health and Physical Education is a 192 credit point undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for careers as qualified secondary school teachers specialising in health and physical education. The program is completed over four years, with students undertaking 48 credit points in each year. Throughout the degree, students develop a strong understanding of health, personal development, physical activity, and educational practice. In the early years, students build foundational knowledge in health sciences, movement studies, and teaching principles, while also gaining insight into psychology, adolescent development, classroom management, and inclusive education. As they progress, students undertake more specialised studies in health promotion, physical education, sport, fitness, nutrition, and personal development. The Health and Physical Education major (MAJ44293) consists of 102 credit points and forms the primary teaching area within the degree. Students learn how to teach a range of movement activities including sports, games, dance, aquatics, and athletics, while also addressing important health topics such as wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, interpersonal relationships, and personal growth. Extensive professional experience placements in schools allow students to apply their learning in real classroom and sporting environments. Opportunities for rural and international placements may also be available.
