COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Sociology) is a 144 credit point undergraduate degree delivered over three years at the Wollongong campus, designed to combine the scientific study of human behaviour with a detailed understanding of society and social structures. The program is structured so that students complete 48 credit points per year across first, second, and third year, ensuring steady academic development in psychology and sociology. In the first year, students study core psychology subjects such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, biological psychology, and research methods, which provide a strong foundation in understanding human behaviour through scientific approaches. In the second year, students deepen their psychological knowledge while beginning to engage with broader social and behavioural applications. In the third year, students complete advanced psychology subjects alongside the Sociology major (MAJ40177), which is worth 48 credit points and focuses on the study of society, culture, inequality, social change, globalisation, power structures, gender, sexuality, and social institutions. The sociology component helps students understand how social systems shape human behaviour and contribute to both opportunities and inequalities within society. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in social research, community services, policy development, education, advocacy, and other fields that require a deep understanding of both individual behaviour and broader social systems.
