COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Indigenous Studies) is a 144 credit point undergraduate degree delivered over three years at the Wollongong campus, designed to provide a strong foundation in psychology combined with a specialised understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues. The program is structured so that students complete 48 credit points per year across first, second, and third year, ensuring steady progression in psychological knowledge, research skills, and critical thinking. In the first year, students are introduced to core psychology subjects such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and biological psychology, along with foundational training in research methods and statistical analysis. In the second year, students build on this knowledge with more advanced psychological theories and begin to explore the application of psychology in broader social and cultural contexts. In the third year, students complete advanced psychology subjects alongside the Indigenous Studies major (MAJ40220), which consists of 48 credit points and explores Indigenous histories, cultures, identities, and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The major also examines global Indigenous perspectives and promotes critical thinking about cultural, political, and social factors shaping Indigenous experiences. Overall, the degree equips graduates with strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in community services, education, policy, research, advocacy, and roles supporting Indigenous communities and social development.
