COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Philosophy) is a 48 credit point program designed to develop advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills in philosophy and related social sciences. In this final year, students complete core research-focused coursework along with a substantial independent thesis. The program includes SCTI470 Research in Critical Social Inquiry (12 credit points), which introduces advanced methodologies used in social science and philosophical research, helping students develop strong analytical and interpretive skills. The major component is ASSH480 Thesis (24 credit points), where students undertake an independent research project under academic supervision, focusing on a specific philosophical topic of interest such as ethics, political philosophy, epistemology, or philosophy of science. This thesis allows students to engage deeply with theoretical ideas and contribute original arguments or interpretations. In addition, students complete 12 credit points of discipline-specific study, choosing between PHIL470 Research Methods in Philosophy or PAIS470 Research in Politics and International Studies, depending on their academic focus and career direction. Overall, the Honours structure is designed to strengthen independent research ability, critical reasoning, and academic writing skills, preparing graduates for further study or careers in education, public policy, research, law, and other fields that require strong analytical and philosophical reasoning abilities.
