COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Economics) is a 48 credit point program designed to provide advanced academic training and independent research experience. In this final year, students complete core research-focused subjects along with a major thesis, allowing them to develop specialist knowledge and high-level analytical skills. The program includes SCTI470 Research in Critical Social Inquiry (12 credit points), which introduces advanced research methods and critical approaches used in social sciences. Students also complete ASSH480 Thesis (24 credit points), which forms the central component of the Honours year and involves conducting an independent research project under academic supervision. This thesis allows students to investigate a chosen topic in depth within economics or a related interdisciplinary area, applying theoretical and empirical methods to real-world issues. In addition, students complete 12 credit points of discipline-specific subjects, selected based on their area of focus. For economics students, this typically involves consultation with the Faculty of Business and Law to choose an appropriate subject. Options from related disciplines include PHIL470 Research Methods in Philosophy or PAIS470 Research in Politics and International Studies, depending on academic direction. Overall, this Honours structure is designed to strengthen research capability, critical thinking, and subject expertise, preparing graduates for advanced study or professional careers in economics, policy, research, and related fields.
