COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences (Honours) (Dean’s Scholar) is a 192-credit-point, four-year program designed for high-achieving students who want to develop advanced knowledge and research skills in human health and medical sciences. The degree is structured over four years, with each year consisting of 48 credit points, allowing a gradual progression from foundational science to advanced research-focused study. In the first year, students build a strong base in core biomedical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, along with introductory health science concepts that explain how the human body functions in health and disease. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of human biology and begin to engage with more specialised areas such as neuroscience, immunology, nutrition, psychology, and public health, while also developing analytical and laboratory skills. In the third year, students move into advanced medical and health science topics, focusing on disease mechanisms, research methods, and applied health sciences, with increasing emphasis on independent thinking and data analysis. In the fourth and final year, students undertake honours-level study, which typically includes a significant research project, allowing them to investigate a specific health-related problem under academic supervision. Across the program, students gain strong scientific reasoning, laboratory competence, and research capability. Graduates are well prepared for careers in medical research, healthcare industries, hospital and clinical environments, and for further postgraduate study such as medicine, allied health, or PhD programs.
