COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematics with a major in Statistics and Data Science is a 144-credit-point program designed to build strong analytical, computational, and statistical skills for working with data in real-world contexts. The degree is structured over three years, combining core mathematics training, elective study, and a 48-credit-point major in Statistics and Data Science. In the first year, students complete 24 credit points of core mathematics subjects alongside 24 credit points of electives, building foundational knowledge in areas such as algebra, calculus, probability, and introductory statistical thinking. In the second year, students deepen their understanding by completing 18 credit points of core subjects, 6 credit points of electives, and 24 credit points in the Statistics and Data Science major. This stage focuses on key areas such as probability, statistical inference, regression analysis, and early data modelling techniques. In the third year, students complete a capstone subject worth 6 credit points, along with 18 credit points of electives and a further 24 credit points in advanced statistics and data science subjects. These advanced studies include topics such as time-series analysis, experimental design, machine learning foundations, data visualisation, and reproducible analytics. Throughout the program, students learn how to collect, clean, analyse, and interpret data while considering uncertainty and ethical responsibility. Graduates are well prepared for careers in data science, statistics, finance, government, healthcare, technology, and research, as well as for further postgraduate study in quantitative and analytical fields.
