COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematics with a major in Mathematics is a 144-credit-point program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both pure and applied mathematics, while allowing flexibility to explore specialised mathematical areas. The degree is structured over three years, with a total of 48 credit points of major study undertaken across the second and third years, alongside foundational studies in the first year. In the first year, students complete 48 credit points of introductory mathematics and related core subjects that build essential skills in algebra, calculus, mathematical reasoning, and basic statistical concepts. This stage establishes the theoretical and computational foundation required for advanced study. In the second year, students complete 24 credit points of more advanced mathematics subjects, developing deeper knowledge in areas such as analysis, linear algebra, differential equations, and mathematical modelling. In the third year, students complete a further 24 credit points of advanced and specialised mathematical study, which may include topics in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, optimisation, and statistical methods. The program emphasises logical reasoning, abstraction, and problem-solving, helping students understand both how mathematical techniques work and why they are valid. Students may also choose to pursue a double major, allowing broader academic development across mathematical disciplines. Graduates are well prepared for careers in data science, finance, analytics, engineering, information technology, research, and other fields that require strong quantitative and analytical skills, as well as for postgraduate study in mathematics or related disciplines.
