COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) (Land Resources major) is a 192-credit-point program designed to prepare students for careers in land management, environmental conservation, and sustainable resource use. The degree begins with a 48-credit-point first year that provides a strong foundation in core environmental science concepts, including biology, chemistry, earth systems, ecology, and data analysis. These foundational subjects build essential scientific and analytical skills required for advanced study in environmental and land resource sciences. From the second year onwards, students complete a 144-credit-point Land Resources major, where they focus on understanding land systems, soil science, ecosystem dynamics, land use planning, and environmental management. The program explores how human activities affect land and ecosystems and how these impacts can be assessed, managed, and mitigated. Students develop skills in environmental monitoring, data collection, geospatial analysis, and field-based research, with a strong emphasis on practical learning through fieldwork and laboratory studies. Key areas include biodiversity conservation, land rehabilitation, sustainable land development, and combating issues such as soil degradation and desertification. The program also highlights the importance of balancing environmental protection with human development needs.
