COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) (Climate and Sustainability major) is a 192-credit-point program designed to prepare students for careers focused on understanding and addressing climate change, environmental systems, and sustainable development. The degree begins with a 48-credit-point first year that provides a strong foundation in core environmental science principles, including biology, chemistry, earth systems, data analysis, and environmental processes. These foundational subjects build essential scientific and analytical skills required for advanced study in environmental science. From the second year onwards, students complete a 144-credit-point Climate and Sustainability major, where they study climate systems, environmental change, sustainability science, natural resource management, environmental modelling, and climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. The program focuses on developing scientific solutions to global environmental challenges, including ecosystem protection, climate resilience, and sustainable resource use. Students gain hands-on experience through fieldwork, laboratory studies, and research projects that develop strong practical skills in data collection, environmental monitoring, and scientific analysis. The degree also includes exposure to cutting-edge research and real-world environmental case studies, supported by access to advanced laboratories and diverse field environments. In the final year, students typically undertake more advanced research and applied learning experiences. Graduates are well prepared for careers in environmental consulting, climate research, sustainability planning, conservation, government agencies, and international environmental organisations working to address climate change and promote sustainability worldwide.
