COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Double Major in Mining Engineering and Materials Engineering) is a 240-credit-point program designed to prepare students for professional engineering careers in mining operations, materials development, and resource-based industries. The program begins with a 48-credit-point first year that provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles, including mathematics, physics, engineering design, programming, and problem-solving. These foundational subjects equip students with the essential knowledge required for advanced study in engineering disciplines. From the second year onwards, students complete a 192-credit-point double major combining Mining Engineering and Materials Engineering. Mining Engineering focuses on mineral exploration, mine design, geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, extraction techniques, and safe and efficient resource recovery. Materials Engineering focuses on the structure, properties, processing, and performance of engineering materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites, as well as material selection, testing, and failure analysis. Together, this integrated program enables students to understand how material performance influences mining equipment, infrastructure, and operational safety. The course is delivered by academic staff engaged in advanced research, ensuring exposure to modern technologies and industry practices. Through laboratory work, field studies, engineering design projects, and real-world problem-solving activities, students develop strong technical, analytical, teamwork, and communication skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in mining companies, materials engineering, manufacturing, resource development, and industrial innovation sectors worldwide.
