COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Double Major in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering) is a 240-credit-point program designed to develop strong technical expertise, analytical ability, and practical engineering skills for careers in mechanical systems design and advanced materials development. The degree begins with a 48-credit-point first year, where students study core engineering fundamentals such as mathematics, physics, engineering principles, programming, and design thinking. These foundational subjects prepare students for more specialised study in later years. From the second year onwards, students complete a 192-credit-point double major combining Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. Mechanical Engineering focuses on key areas such as mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid systems, machine design, manufacturing processes, energy systems, and product development. Materials Engineering focuses on understanding material properties, including metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, nanomaterials, corrosion, and material behaviour under different environmental and mechanical conditions. Together, this integrated program enables students to design efficient machines and systems while selecting and developing suitable materials to improve performance, safety, and sustainability. The course is delivered by academic staff engaged in advanced research, ensuring exposure to modern technologies and industry practices. Through laboratory work, design projects, and problem-based learning, students gain hands-on experience and develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, and materials innovation industries worldwide.
