COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining Engineering major) is a 192-credit-point program designed to prepare students for professional careers in mineral exploration, mine design, and resource extraction industries. The degree begins with a 48-credit-point first year that provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles, including mathematics, physics, engineering design, programming, and problem-solving skills. These foundational subjects build the essential knowledge required for advanced study in mining engineering. From the second year onwards, students complete a 144-credit-point Mining Engineering major, where they study key areas such as mine planning, geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, mineral processing, geostatistics, drilling and blasting, mine ventilation, and occupational health and safety. The program focuses on the efficient, safe, and sustainable extraction of mineral resources while also addressing environmental management and mine rehabilitation. Students gain practical experience through laboratory work, engineering design projects, simulations, and real-world problem-solving activities that develop strong technical, analytical, and teamwork skills. The course also includes exposure to industry practices and modern mining technologies through academic staff engaged in internationally recognised research. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency in mining environments. Graduates are well prepared for careers in mining operations, resource development, consulting, and geotechnical engineering roles across government, private industry, and global mining companies.
