COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Materials Engineering major) is a 192-credit-point program designed to prepare students for careers in materials development, manufacturing, and advanced engineering industries. The degree begins with a 48-credit-point first year that provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles such as mathematics, physics, engineering design, programming, and problem-solving skills. These foundational subjects support students in understanding the scientific and technical basis of engineering practice. From the second year onwards, students complete a 144-credit-point Materials Engineering major, where they study how the structure, composition, processing, and properties of materials influence their performance in real-world applications. Key study areas include engineering alloys, polymers, ceramics, glasses, composites, metallurgical processes, materials forming and manufacturing, materials science and technology, and sustainability in materials engineering. The program emphasises the design and selection of materials for applications in industries such as construction, aerospace, automotive, energy, electronics, and biomedical engineering. Students also explore how materials engineering contributes to sustainability by reducing waste, improving recycling processes, and enabling cleaner production technologies. The course includes hands-on learning through laboratory work, design projects, simulations, and practical problem-solving activities. Delivered by academic staff engaged in internationally recognised research, the program ensures exposure to modern materials technologies and industry practices. Graduates are well prepared for careers in materials development, manufacturing, product design, research, and sustainable engineering industries worldwide.
