COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Design major) at the University of Wollongong is a 144-credit point undergraduate program designed to develop students as versatile creative practitioners with skills in both fine arts and contemporary design. The degree is structured over three years of full-time study, with 48 credit points completed in each year. In the first year, students build foundational skills in visual art and design through studio-based learning, exploring core techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and introductory design principles. This stage focuses on developing creativity, technical ability, and basic conceptual thinking. In the second year, students expand their practice by engaging with a wider range of media and design approaches, including ceramics, installation, interaction design, spatial design, and socially engaged design projects. In the third year, students undertake advanced studio work, refining their individual creative direction and producing a professional portfolio that integrates both visual arts and design outcomes.
