COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) at the University of Wollongong is a 144-credit point undergraduate program designed to provide students with strong foundational computing knowledge and specialised skills in large-scale software development. The degree includes 78 credit points of core subjects that build essential competencies in programming, algorithms, data structures, computer systems, networking, databases, web technologies, systems analysis, human–computer interaction, and project management. These core subjects ensure students develop strong problem-solving abilities and a deep understanding of computing principles required for professional software development. In addition, students complete 6 credit points of core selection subjects, which provide limited flexibility to explore related areas in computing. The program includes a 24-credit point Software Engineering major, where students focus on the design, development, testing, and maintenance of complex software systems such as enterprise applications, operating systems, and large-scale multi-user platforms. The major emphasises team-based development, structured engineering processes, and industry-standard practices to ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability of software products. A key feature of the degree is the 12-credit point capstone annual project, where students work collaboratively to solve real-world software engineering problems using professional tools and methodologies. This experience enhances both technical and teamwork skills. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in software engineering, application development, systems design, and IT project management, while also providing strong pathways to honours and postgraduate research in computer science and software systems.
