COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Dean’s Scholar) at the University of Wollongong is a 144-credit point degree designed for high-achieving students who want to undertake an advanced and research-enriched computing education. The course structure includes 96 credit points of core subjects that build strong foundational knowledge in computer science and information technology. These core subjects cover essential areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, computer systems, networking, databases, software development, and systems analysis, providing the technical base required for advanced study. Students then either complete a 24-credit point major from the available specialisations or follow an alternative advanced pathway without a major. If a major is not selected, students instead complete 18 credit points of advanced 300-level CSCI, CSIT, or ISIT subjects along with an additional 6 credit point 200/300-level subject outside the core. The program also includes 6 credit points from Dean’s Scholar-specific subjects designed to extend academic excellence and research capability. The remaining credit points are completed through electives, chosen from approved computing subjects or the general university schedule, allowing flexibility to broaden skills and interests. A key requirement is that no more than 60 credit points can be at 100-level, ensuring progression to more advanced study. Overall, the structure supports both depth and flexibility, preparing students for honours, research pathways, and high-level careers in computer science and technology.
